Weekly Round-up
January 27 - February 2
I’m a bit late to the party this week, and if I’m being honest with you it’s because the weight of the world has really made it hard to sit down and write, especially in a tone that’s happy. It’s weird existing in this time when things feel really heavy yet I’m experiencing a lot of joy at the same time. And, while I know joy can be an act of resistance, it also feels a bit short-sighted of me to focus solely on these joys so this week I’m adding a section focusing on acts of resistance I’m practicing or plan to practice - hopefully you’ll join me in creating your own list of acts of resistance.
What I read:
This was an absolutely beautiful book to listen to on my drive to and from Duluth

What I ate:
This was a week of eating out a lot, which I’m not mad about because I had some really delicious meals.
If you know me, you know one of my favorite cuisines is Sichuan. I was up in the Twin Cities on Wednesday and decided to eat at Legendary Spice, a Minneapolis-based restaurant known for their classic Sichuan menu. It did not disappoint! I had mapo tofu, jasmine tea, and green tea mille crepes.
Like I mentioned, I was up north last week, which also included a few days in Duluth. No trip is complete to Duluth without eating at Northern Waters Smokehaus and Sir Benedicts’s Tavern on the Lake . My go to order at Northern Waters is the Sitka Salmon sandwich and it’s always an absolute delight. Sir Benedict’s has a wicked bowl of English onion soup and a butterfinger pie that I think about pretty regularly, so I had pie and soup for dinner. I also had some of the best dairy free ice cream I’ve ever had at Love Creamery.
What I did:
I hosted a winter adventure in Duluth for Wander Women, which included dog sledding, a sauna and cold plunge session at Cedar and Stone, a snowy hike at Jay Cooke State Park, and a tour and drinks at Vikre Distillery.
I also spent a day in St. Paul and Minneapolis and spent a lot of time in my beautiful hotel room at Celeste of St. Paul, which is a former nun convent converted to a hotel right in the heart of downtown St. Paul.
My acts of resistance for this week:
Contact my representatives using 5 Calls and let them know I’m pissed about a variety of things
Talk to my kids about current events and what we can do
Spend less time of Meta-based apps
Participate in mutual aid — there are so many ways to get involved with mutual aid in our communities. Most often I participate in dropping food off at community fridges, using local buy nothing groups to both get and give away items, and providing my skills and knowledge free of charge.
